So the comparison is less straightforward than the sticker suggests, and more interesting because of it.

The Indra Smart PRO at £395 plus a typical install of £400–£600 puts total outlay at roughly £795–£995. That range overlaps with the Pod Point's £999, which is the entire point: for a straightforward installation — short cable run, consumer unit nearby — the Indra route is cheaper. For a complicated one — long trench, board upgrade — the Pod Point's fixed price starts to look like insurance.

There is a further wrinkle. The Indra ships with a surge protection device and a CT clamp for solar. An SPD alone typically adds £100–£150 to an install bill. That pushes the Indra's effective cost down further, widening the gap for any buyer whose electrician would otherwise charge separately for protection.

Smart features favour the Indra

Both chargers offer 7.4 kW single-phase charging and scheduled sessions via their respective apps. Beyond that, they diverge.

The Indra Smart PRO integrates with Octopus Intelligent Go, Octopus Go, OVO Charge Anytime, and EDF GoElectric. It can chase cheaper slots rather than just hold a fixed schedule. The Pod Point Solo 3S offers scheduled charging and adaptive load management, but no direct supplier-API link. If your savings strategy depends on tariff automation, the Pod Point is the wrong charger at any price.

Warranty and peace of mind

Pod Point's five-year warranty is two years longer than the Indra's three. That matters. It also covers the installation itself, which is harder to replicate when you've hired your own electrician — most independent installers offer one to two years on labour. That grant-plus-fixed-install combination is the Pod Point's strongest case. A renter who qualifies, dislikes quote-shopping, and values the five-year warranty can walk away with a fully installed charger for £499. Hard to argue with that.

Buy the Indra Smart PRO if:

• You are happy to source your own electrician and want the lowest total cost
• You use a smart tariff and want the charger to follow it
• You have solar panels — the included CT clamp and solar mode save another £50–£100

Buy the Pod Point Solo 3S if:

• You want one fixed price with no quote-shopping
• You are an OZEV-eligible renter — the grant brings the installed price to £499
• A five-year warranty covering both hardware and installation matters to you

For most homeowners arranging their own install, the Indra Smart PRO is the better buy. It costs less, does more with your tariff, and includes protection hardware that quietly reduces the bill further. The Pod Point earns its place for the buyer who treats arranging an electrician as the obstacle — particularly grant-eligible renters, where £499 installed is a price the Indra cannot match on its own terms.
