The £118 that isn't the real gap
On paper, the Wallbox Pulsar Max costs £513 and the Indra Smart PRO costs £395 — a £118 difference. But the Indra ships with a surge protection device and a CT clamp for solar monitoring already in the box. Most installers charge £100–£150 for an SPD and £50–£100 for a CT clamp when they aren't included. Factor those in and the effective gap between these two chargers is closer to £250–£370 in the Indra's favour. That changes the conversation from "which is better" to "what specific thing does the Wallbox do that's worth that much more."

Where the Wallbox earns its premium
Two scenarios. First: your mounting wall is cramped. At 198 × 201 × 99 mm and 4.2 kg, the Pulsar Max is genuinely tiny — smaller even than the EO Mini Pro 3, which markets itself on size. If the charger needs to sit between a gas meter and a downpipe, few alternatives will physically fit.
Second: three-phase supply. The Pulsar Max can deliver 22kW on three-phase, cutting a 60 kWh battery from flat to full in under three hours instead of eight. The Indra Smart PRO is single-phase only. If you have — or plan to install — a three-phase connection, the Wallbox is one of a small handful of domestic chargers that can use it. The five-year warranty matters too — two years longer than the Indra's three. Whether that justifies £118 (or the real-world £250+) depends on how much you value the peace of mind versus the cash in hand.
The Indra's quiet advantage on install day
The included SPD is the detail most comparison pages overlook. Since the 18th Edition wiring regulations, a surge protection device is required on most new EV charger circuits. When it's not in the box, your installer adds one to the consumer unit — and bills you for it. The Indra has it built in. The CT clamp is the same story: if you have solar panels, you need one for the charger to know when to use excess generation. Wallbox's Eco-Smart solar mode requires a separate Power Meter, bought and installed at extra cost.
On tariff support, the Indra covers Octopus Intelligent Go, OVO Charge Anytime, Octopus Go, and EDF GoElectric. The Wallbox supports Intelligent Go but otherwise relies on manual scheduling. The Indra's cable is 6 metres to the Wallbox's 5. One metre sounds trivial until the car is parked bonnet-out and the charge port is on the far side.
What about the Indra's V2G reputation?
Indra is known for vehicle-to-grid work, and the Smart PRO carries that brand halo. But the Smart PRO itself does not support V2G. It is a standard AC smart charger. The V2G-capable hardware is a different product entirely. Buying the Smart PRO because you expect a firmware update to unlock bidirectional charging would be a mistake. Buy it because it is a well-specified 7.4 kW charger at a low total cost of ownership. Nothing more, nothing less.
Which to buy
Buy the Wallbox Pulsar Max if:
- Your mounting space is unusually tight and physical size is a hard constraint
- You have or are installing a three-phase supply and want 22 kW charging
- A five-year warranty matters more to you than a lower upfront bill
Buy the Indra Smart PRO if:
- You want the lowest total installed cost — unit plus SPD plus CT clamp
- You have solar panels and don't want to buy a separate monitoring accessory
- A 6-metre cable fits your driveway layout better than 5
For a standard single-phase UK home with the car parked within six metres of the charger, the Indra Smart PRO is the more sensible buy. The £118 sticker gap understates the real saving, the tariff support covers the most popular off-peak deals, and the included accessories remove two line items from the installer's quote. The Wallbox is a fine charger — compact, well-warranted, capable on three-phase — but it solves problems most buyers don't have.
