The Tesla Wall Connector costs £475. The EO Mini Pro 3 costs £523. That £48 buys you the smallest charger on the UK market — 215 × 140 × 100 mm, roughly A5-sized, half the weight of the Tesla at 2.5 kg. If your mounting wall is a narrow pillar beside a garage door, or a recessed alcove where nothing else physically fits, the EO is the answer to a question no other charger can solve.
For everyone else, the Tesla is the stronger buy.

Cable, warranty, weatherproofing — the Tesla's quiet advantages
The Tesla's 7.3-metre tethered cable is the longest in our catalogue. The EO's is 5 metres. That difference matters more than it reads: a 7.3-metre cable reaches around the back of most estate cars; a 5-metre cable assumes the charge port is on the near side of the vehicle, parked close. If your driveway is anything other than a single car pulled tight to the wall, the extra 2.3 metres is worth having.
Warranty: four years from Tesla, three from EO. The Tesla also receives over-the-air updates — a feature that has added power-sharing support and scheduling refinements since launch. The EO's own app is being retired, with owners migrated to ev.energy. That is not catastrophic — ev.energy is a competent platform — but it is worth knowing the software you buy into today is not the one EO originally sold.
One mark against the Tesla: IP44 versus the EO's IP54. On a sheltered wall, irrelevant. On an exposed west-facing elevation in driving rain, the EO's higher ingress protection is a practical edge. Consider a weatherproof enclosure if fitting the Tesla on an unprotected wall.
The OZEV grant changes the arithmetic for renters
The Tesla Wall Connector is not OZEV-approved. The EO Mini Pro 3 is. For eligible renters and flat owners, the £500 OZEV grant covers the EO's £523 unit price almost entirely, leaving just £23 plus installation. That transforms the value proposition — the EO becomes effectively free as a unit, while the Tesla remains £475 out of pocket regardless.
If you are a homeowner, the grant does not apply, and the Tesla's lower price and longer warranty stand. If you are a renter, the EO is the obvious choice on cost alone.
Solar and smart tariffs — where the EO earns its keep
The EO includes a CT clamp for solar diversion. It is basic — nowhere near the sophistication of a Zappi GLO in Eco+ mode — but it works, and it costs nothing extra. The Tesla Wall Connector cannot divert solar without third-party hardware. If you have panels and want a simple, low-cost way to push surplus generation into the car, the EO does the job.
On smart tariffs, both chargers handle fixed off-peak windows — Octopus Go at 8.5p/kWh from 00:30–05:30, EDF GoElectric at 6.99p/kWh from 23:00–06:00. One EO-specific note: the Hive Power+ variant, sold through British Gas, credits back 25 per cent of charging costs on the EV Power+ tariff. That is a structural rebate no other charger offers. It only works inside the British Gas ecosystem, but if you are already there, it is a genuine financial argument for the EO.

Buy the Tesla Wall Connector if:
- You want the longest cable (7.3 m) and lowest price (£475) in this pair
- You already use the Tesla app and want everything in one place
- You are a homeowner on a fixed off-peak tariff and do not need solar diversion
Buy the EO Mini Pro 3 if:
- Your mounting wall demands the smallest possible unit — nothing else at 215 × 140 mm comes close
- You are an eligible renter or flat owner and the £500 OZEV grant applies
- You are on British Gas and the Hive Power+ 25 per cent cashback is part of the calculation
For the majority of buyers — Tesla owners or otherwise — the Wall Connector does more for less. It is £48 cheaper, has a longer cable, an extra year of warranty, and an app that is not in the middle of a platform migration. The EO is the right charger when the wall dictates the unit, or when the grant or British Gas cashback rewrites the price. Outside those two scenarios, the Tesla is the one to fit.
