Simpson & Partners Home 7 — product shot

The Andersen for considerably less. Simpson & Partners build to the same brief — anodised aluminium, multiple premium finishes (Accoya wood, a distinctive Cotswolds Green that suits period properties), UK-manufactured — for £251 less than the Andersen A3. The 10-year enclosure warranty is the longest on the UK market, though worth naming the scope: it covers the aluminium housing, not the internal electronics, which get the standard three-year cover.

Three-phase capability is in the box, unusual at this price — most chargers below the Andersen don't offer it. Intelligent Octopus Go schedules the charger itself; Octopus Go and EDF GoElectric are a window you set in the app. The catch is brand awareness: Simpson & Partners don't have Ohme or myenergi's installer reach, so fewer local electricians have fitted one, and the pool of online reviews is smaller.

Best for: Buyers who want premium British-made build at a price that genuinely undercuts the Andersen, and don't mind choosing the less-famous brand.

Installation

Fitting the Simpson & Partners Home 7.

Mid-sized at 5.5 kg, 350 × 200 × 110 mm. Anodised aluminium construction; the multiple finishes make it worth locking mounting position in with the installer, since this charger is typically specified for visible front-of-house spots. Standard 5-metre tethered cable, or an untethered version if you'd rather bring your own. The three-phase option is the quiet installation consideration: on a three-phase property (common in some rural areas, newer builds, and conversions), the Home 7 delivers 22kW — twice what most competitors in the bracket manage. Intelligent Octopus Go reaches the Home 7 directly: Octopus plans the charge and the charger follows, with no window for you to set. Octopus Go, EDF GoElectric and the other fixed-window tariffs are a schedule in the Simpson & Partners app. OVO Charge Anytime is not an option — the Home 7 is absent from OVO's compatible-charger list — and nothing here reads Octopus Agile's half-hourly prices, which remains the Ohme Home Pro's job. Against the Tesla Wall Connector: the Tesla is £174 cheaper with better app integration; the Simpson offers premium materials and three-phase. The main real caveat is brand depth: Simpson & Partners has the smallest installer network in this selection. If you can't find a local electrician who's fitted one, that's a harder problem than the charger itself.
