The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro costs £625. The EO Mini Pro 3 costs £523. Both are OZEV-approved, single-phase, tethered Type 2 chargers with smart tariff scheduling and solar diversion via an included CT clamp. On paper, they overlap almost entirely. The difference is in what surrounds the charging — build quality, cable reach, physical size, and the software platform each one bets on.

The Hypervolt's build advantage is not cosmetic
IP66 means jet-spray waterproofing. IK10 means it can take a 20-joule impact — roughly equivalent to a 5 kg weight dropped from 40 cm. No other charger in the domestic catalogue matches both ratings together. The EO Mini Pro 3 carries IP54: splash-proof, not jet-proof. If the unit sits on an exposed wall beside a drive where car doors swing, shopping bags collide, and British weather does its worst, the Hypervolt is built for that life. The EO is built to be small.
Cable length matters too. The EO comes with 5 metres and that is the only option. The Hypervolt starts at 5 metres but offers 7.5-metre and 10-metre cables — the longest tethered option on any charger here. If your parking spot sits more than a couple of metres from the consumer unit, the Hypervolt removes the need for an extension or a second cable run. That alone can save more than £102 in install costs.
The EO's case: size and British Gas
The EO Mini Pro 3 is 215 × 140 × 100 mm. That is smaller than a paperback. For a narrow garage pillar, a recessed cupboard wall, or a tight space beside a front door, it is often the only mainstream charger that physically fits. The Wallbox Pulsar Max is compact too, but at £513 it is only £10 cheaper and lacks the EO's Ethernet port — a genuine advantage in garages where Wi-Fi signal dies two metres from the house.
The other structural reason to pick the EO is British Gas. The Hive Power+ version credits back 25 per cent of charging costs on the British Gas EV Power tariff (9p/kWh off-peak, midnight to 05:00). That cashback is locked to British Gas's ecosystem, but if you are already in it, no other charger replicates it.
One caveat. EO is retiring its own app and migrating users to ev.energy. The charger you buy today will not be managed by the same software platform EO marketed a year ago. The ev.energy app is capable — it handles smart tariff scheduling across Octopus Go, EDF GoElectric, and others — but it is a third-party dependency, and that introduces a layer of uncertainty the Hypervolt's own app does not.
Smart features: a draw, mostly
Both chargers schedule charging on two-rate tariffs. Both include a CT clamp for basic solar diversion. Neither matches the Ohme Home Pro's half-hourly price chasing on Octopus Agile, and neither approaches the myenergi Zappi GLO's surplus-only Eco+ mode. The Hypervolt edges ahead on connectivity polish: interchangeable covers in three colours, energy tracking in its own app, and a UK phone support line that answers quickly. The EO counters with Ethernet and optional 4G — niche, but load-bearing if your install site has no Wi-Fi at all.
Which to buy
Buy the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro if:
- Your charger sits on an exposed or high-traffic wall — IP66 + IK10 is unmatched
- You need more than 5 metres of cable
- You want a warranty you can extend to five years for £100
Buy the EO Mini Pro 3 if:
- Physical space rules out anything larger than 215 × 140 mm
- You are on British Gas and want the Hive Power+ 25% cashback
- You need a wired Ethernet connection or 4G fallback
For most homes, the Hypervolt is the better charger. It is tougher, more flexible on cable length, and backed by longer warranty options. The £102 premium buys tangible, lasting differences — not marginal software features. The EO earns its place only when the wall demands it or British Gas pays you back. If neither condition applies and £625 feels steep, the Tesla Wall Connector at £475 does more for less — though it is not OZEV-approved, so grant-eligible buyers should look elsewhere.
