The warranty question — and the asterisk
Simpson & Partners leads with its 10-year warranty, and rightly so. No other home charger on the UK market matches it. But the detail matters: that decade covers the enclosure — the aluminium shell — not the electronics inside it. The internals get three years, which is exactly what the Hypervolt offers as standard (extendable to five for £100).
So the Simpson & Partners promise is this: the thing on your wall will still look good in 2036. That is a genuine differentiator if curb appeal matters to you — and for a front-of-house install on a stone cottage, Cotswolds Green or Accoya wood trim might be the deciding factor. But if your charger lives in a side return or a garage, the enclosure warranty is less relevant than the electronics warranty, and on that measure they are level.
The Hypervolt's counter-argument is its IP66 + IK10 rating. IP66 means full protection against powerful water jets; IK10 means it can take a 20-joule impact — roughly equivalent to a 5 kg weight dropped from 40 cm. Three-phase, untethered, and the features the Hypervolt cannot match
The Simpson & Partners Home 7 offers a 22kW three-phase option. The Hypervolt does not — it is single-phase only, capped at 7.4kW. For the vast majority of UK homes on a single-phase supply, this is irrelevant. For the small number with three-phase power — or those planning a supply upgrade — it is a hard differentiator. Simpson & Partners also sells an untethered version — a wall-mounted socket without a permanently attached cable. Useful if you charge multiple vehicles with different connectors, or if you simply prefer a cleaner wall. The Hypervolt is tethered-only, though it compensates with cable length options: 5 m, 7.5 m, or 10 m. That 10-metre option is the longest available on any UK home charger, and for driveways where the car parks far from the consumer unit, it removes the need for cable management gymnastics.
Smart features and tariff support
