Verdict

A credible stay-with-your-supplier tariff for ScottishPower customers. 8.5p/kWh matches Octopus Go, works with any scheduled charger and needs no new app relationship. It is not the cheapest fixed option, and the GMT/BST meter timing deserves more attention than the headline gives it. Take it for continuity and simplicity; choose EDF GoElectric for the lower fixed rate or a managed tariff when the car cannot keep a dependable overnight schedule.

What the rate means in practice.

ScottishPower EV Saver is a straightforward five-hour tariff at 8.5p/kWh. The published winter window is 12am–5am. ScottishPower matches the tariff's electricity with renewable generation certificates sourced from its group renewables.

Best for: Existing ScottishPower customers who want a fixed overnight rate and are content to schedule the car or charger themselves.

How It Works

EV Saver follows a standard time-of-use model. Eligible customers need a single-rate smart meter that sends half-hourly readings and must pay by monthly Direct Debit. The tariff works with any home charger because the meter, not the charger brand, determines which electricity falls into the lower-rate period.

The clock-time caveat matters. ScottishPower says many meters follow Greenwich Mean Time. During British Summer Time, their night period can therefore appear as 1am to 6am rather than midnight to 5am. Selected SMETS1 meters keep midnight to 5am throughout the year. Check the meter-specific timing shown by ScottishPower before setting a permanent schedule.

Who It Suits

This tariff is a natural fit for ScottishPower customers who want to add an EV without switching provider. The rate matches Octopus Go and sits above EDF GoElectric, which also runs a longer window. If the car needs flexibility outside a fixed window, ScottishPower also markets EV Optimise as a separate managed-charging add-on for eligible non-time-of-use tariffs; it cannot simply be stacked onto EV Saver.
