Verdict

A stay-with-British-Gas choice rather than the base-rate winner. 9p/kWh across 12am–5am is easy to use with any timed charger, while Power+ can improve the result for a compatible setup. EDF GoElectric wins the fixed headline rate; Intelligent Go wins managed scheduling. Choose EV Power when the British Gas relationship or verified Power+ route is worth more than that gap. What the rate means in practice.

British Gas EV Power, previously sold as Electric Drivers, provides 9p/kWh during 12am–5am. The base tariff works with any EV and any reliably scheduled home charger. British Gas also offers Power+ as a separate compatible-smart-charging discount; confirm that route before treating its lower equivalent rate as part of the tariff comparison.

Best for: Existing British Gas customers who want a simple fixed window, particularly when staying with the supplier or qualifying for Power+ matters more than the lowest base rate.

How It Works

The base tariff has a simple two-rate structure: a lower rate during 12am–5am and the quoted peak rate for the rest of the day. Set the car or charger timer once. Five hours at 7kW can deliver about 35kWh, roughly 120 miles in an efficient EV.

Power+ is different. It is available only with a compatible charger, a British Gas electricity tariff and a smart meter in credit mode. British Gas currently describes it as a 25% discount on eligible home EV charging. Treat the compatibility check and charging mode as part of the price, not a footnote.

Who It Suits

EV Power works well for steady daily mileage that fits inside a five-hour window. EDF GoElectric runs longer and cheaper; Intelligent Go adds managed charging. British Gas is strongest when supplier continuity, a lower quoted peak rate or Power+ eligibility changes the household calculation.

Compatible Chargers

The base EV Power window works with any reliably scheduled charger. A Tesla Wall Connector can use the vehicle schedule; an Ohme Home Pro adds supplier-led options where supported. Power+ has its own live compatibility list, so check the exact charger model rather than assuming every British Gas integration qualifies.
